CARLA2024: foster the growth and strength of the HPC community

The main idea of the event is to share and exchange ideas related to management from the production point of view in a computing center, with the aim of providing innovative ideas to computing centers that are growing in Latin America, and at the same time it give us the opportunity to interact with people from other computing centers in Europe, USA and Latin America. The conference included workshops, tutorials, panels and a DevOps School for HPC.

Cineca has been actively present in the DevOps School, the main idea of the school was to cover all of the aspects, from the acquisition tender to the dismantling of an HPC cluster. In particular CINECA has participated in two sections: Cineca’s slurm policies and monitoring users, both presentations focused in illustrating how we maximize the productivity of our cluster through the Slurm policies that we set on them. Specifically, during the presentation the Cineca’s participant illustrates what Cineca is and what it represents as the main HPC center in Italy, one of the most powerful in Europe, how we distribute the resources of our clusters through the use of partitions and quality of service (QoS) and the kind of limits we setup. Finally, we show some basic tools that we adopt to monitor our users and the correct use of the resources.

CARLA has become the flagship conference for HPC in the Latin America region. The international community present has shared its advances on both HPC and HPC&AI (convergence between HPC and Artificial Intelligence) as those two key areas are becoming the predominant engine for innovation and development.
