With funding from the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), EuroCC and CASTIEL will build a European network of 33 national HPC competence centres. The two projects will bridge the existing HPC skills gaps while promoting cooperation and the implementation of best practices across Europe.

33 national competence centres will be part of the EuroCC network. The partners of this network will act to map available HPC competencies and will coordinate HPC expertise at national level in order to provide an easy access to European HPC opportunities for research and scientific users, from both public administration and industrial sectors.
CASTIEL will promote interaction and exchange of expertise across the entire EuroCC network. During the project a map of Europe-wide competency will be set up including available resources and knowledge gap across all EuroCC competence centres. In particular, CASTIEL will coordinates many activities (like workshops, partnership and specific working groups) to address shared interesting issue. This will encourage potential collaborations, exchange of best practices, sharing of knowledge and expertise between different nations to efficiently address skill gaps and close them.
The ultimate objective of the projects is to ensure a coordinated and consistent high level of expertise across Europe in HPC and related disciplines such as high-performance data analytics (HPDA) and artificial intelligence.
The project is just started, on the 1st of September 2020: EuroCC and CASTIEL will run for the next two years.
