  4. End of Fermi production...

Dear Users,
This is to inform you that Fermi will stop its production phase on July 18th 2016, whilst the new class Tier-0 CINECA HPC cluster Marconi will start its production phase on July 1st 2016.
All projects and usernames active on FERMI after the date will be moved to the new cluster. The new HPC Users’ Guide for Marconi (a preliminary version) can be found here:
https://wiki.u-gov.it/confluence/display/SCAIUS/UG3.1%3A+MARCONI+UserGuide
Please, take care of the following:

endianness: the new cluster is little-endian (FERMI is big-endian) and therefore please consider that proper file conversion will be required to use binary data files on Marconi. Caveats and instructions on how to perform this task will be given in a separate communication.
production environment: on Marconi the latest releases of Intel and Gnu compilers and related libraries will be available (IBM XL compilers are not available on Marconi). Users’ own codes will need recompilation prior their usage on Marconi compute nodes.
data transfer: User and Project data will be transferred to Marconi filesystems by Cineca. More information about how and when will be given in a separate communication.
modules: a new, upgraded modules environment will be available on Marconi, more details on a separate communication.

We also remind that CINECA will hold three introduction courses on Marconi. The courses will have a duration of 1 day and will be held in Bologna, Roma and Milan by staff of the User Support team. For instructions on how to register and a preliminary programme please visit our on line HPC portal in the Training section:
