REMINDER Pitagora: activation of the SCRATCH automatic cleaning procedure

Dear Users,

As previously announced, we would like to remind you that the automatic cleaning procedure is now active on the Pitagora SCRATCH area.

During this initial phase, the cleaning process runs daily and removes files that have not been modified for more than 60 days.

Starting November 3, the retention period will be reduced to 40 days, bringing Pitagora in line with the policy already adopted on all other CINECA clusters.

Please note that this procedure only affects data stored in the SCRATCH area. Files located in the HOME, PUBLIC, and WORK areas will not be impacted.

If you wish to preserve any data older than the retention limit (60 days during this first phase, 40 days thereafter), please move it either outside the cluster for long-term archiving, or to one of the cluster’s persistent storage areas, such as WORK.

We would also like to remind users that the SCRATCH area is intended exclusively for temporary storage and should not be used for long-term data retention. Any attempt to circumvent the retention policy, including the intentional modification of file access or modification timestamps, may adversely affect system operations and other users. Such practices are therefore strictly prohibited.

Additional information regarding storage areas and their intended usage is available here.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Best regards,
HPC User Support @ CINECA
