  4. BLIXT ZERO: SELF-MONITORING DATA...

Any interruptions in a data center’s operation can have enormous chain effects. The project aims to validate the capabilities of solid state circuit breakers (SSCB) for predictive server maintenance, replacing outdated mechanical circuit breakers with modern power electronics. By monitoring 10 connection points at RISE ICE datacenter with Blixt Zero SSCB, real-time data and control of power flow can be achieved.

Start date: 05/01/2022

Duration in months: 9

Problem Description

The use-case concerns the optimization of operations in the data centers and the validation of the capacity of the SSCB switches (solid-state automatic switch) for the predictive maintenance of the servers, through the replacement of the obsolete mechanical switch and the implementation of tests and monitoring activities on the connection points.

Goals

New services

Challenges

The challenge is to reduce any disruptions in the operation of data centers that can cause risks and negative impacts in terms of money, reputation and security. The goal is to optimize operations in data centers through a consolidated and certified switch.

Innovation results

While datacenters consume about 3% of the global energy, costs related to maintenance to prevent downtime is as costly as utility costs. By optimizing maintenance large energy and cost savings can be made. Datacenters currently consume an average 200TWh of energy every year. Considering an estimated 10% of reduction by optimized operations, the total energy savings could be 20TWh equivalent to 14,140,800 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalent.
