The visit of Spack developers Culpo and Stoppels ended with success!

The HPC staff of CINECA thanks the Spack developers Massimiliano Culpo and Harmen Stoppels for their visit at our premises in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna). During the two-day Spack event on February 13-14, Culpo and Stoppels delivered a comprehensive tutorial course followed by a mini-hackathon on Spack, the package manager for software configuration and installation on multiple platforms.

EuroHPC Joint Undertaking has recently approved Cineca expression of interest for upgrading Leonardo supercomputer, targeting an increase of 100 PFlops of computing capacity: upgrade named Lisa, after the universally known portrait Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

LEONARDO ranked 4th in the Top500 list

The CINECA's supercomputer LEONARDO, jointly funded by EuroHPC and CINECA on behalf of Italian Ministry of University and Research, reached the 4th position in the Top500 list of the fastest supercomputers in the world. This milestone rewards CINECA’s 50-year commitment to supporting research through HPC, and confirms Italy's role as a strategic asset in the building of the European HPC ecosystem.

Summer of HPC 2021 winners

CINECA's students Mario Gaimann and Raska Soemantoro just won the 2021 SoHPC Best Performance Award, with theie project "Automated Classification for Mapping submarine structures by Artificial Intelligence strategies" (project 2111). The two students worked in collaboration with OGS, NOC and CINECA, as well as the DPC-MaGIC Project.
